The All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State has elected the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr Nsima Ekere, as the party’s candidate for 2019 governorship election in the state.

Ekere, who contested against three other aspirants – Senator John Akpanudoedehe, Dan Abia, and Edet Efretuei − scored a total of 160,458 out of 167,896 votes.

Akpanudoedehe polled 2,015 votes, Abia polled 4,189 votes, while Efretuei polled 1,234 votes.

Akpanudoedehe called for the cancellation of the election, saying the list of returning officers or agents of aspirants were not available.

He noted that the mode of the election was not discussed and agreed, adding that as aspirants were asked to disperse to enable the election committee to discuss and resolve a few salient issues, he reluctantly stepped aside after other aspirants left the room.

He explained in Uyo on Monday that not long commotion ensued and many of his opponent’s supporters began to release gunshots in the presence of police who did not put up any effort to stop the show of violence.
