OFFA: The Management of Federal Polytechnic, Offa in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State on Friday said it had suspended two students of the institution, Tajudeen Selim and Temitope Omotosho, who were suspected to be cult members.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aminu Saleh, had on Tuesday announced the arrest of Selim – the Vice President, Students Union Government of the polytechnic. The CP, who spoke through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, had further said Temitope Omotosho, Adewusi Vincent, Olanipekun Abimbola and another suspect, Ayomide Ololade, were also arrested for their alleged involvement in cult-related activities.

But Selim had denied the allegations, saying he was arrested at the scene where he had gone to make peace.

The management of the polytechnic, in a statement by the school’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Aroye, stated that before the students were paraded by the police, the institution had reported the incidence of forceful

initiation of students to the police based on complaints to the institution.

He identified the police’s response and intervention to the issue as  responsible for the arrest.

Aroye said, “The two suspected students (Selim and Omotosho) were suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of the police investigation and further findings on the matter. Adewusi Vincent, who was mentioned along with two others, has ceased to be a student of the institution having been withdrawn from the polytechnic since 2017 for poor performance.”
