ABUJA: The newly- inaugurated Governing Council of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, said the agency is stepping up the clampdown on sales and importation of Tramadol with a launch of a National Sensitisation Programme aimed at educating young people on the dangers inherent in abusing Tramadol.

Director -General of NAFDAC, Mrs Christiana Adeyeye who disclosed this in Lagos during the maiden visit of the Chairman of the Agency’s Governing Council, said the programme, billed to be launched in Kano in the next one month would be later expanded to cover the six geographical zones of the country.
Speaking after the tour of the NAFDAC facilities in Lagos, the Chairman, NAFDAC Governing Council, Alhaji Inuwa Abdul-Kadir, lamented that “Tramadol, for instance has become a drug being imported into the country to sustain the activities of criminals. Without the use of this drug many young men people who are involved in these nefarious activities would be pursuing some productive and useful lives.”
