An online transportation network company, Taxify, has employed 2,000 graduates as drivers.

Findings from a three-month research conducted by indigenous communications and public relations company, Plexus Media Interlinks Limited, showed that about 2,000 people who were out of school and seeking employment had taken to Taxify as a viable platform of self-employment.

According to the report, transport apps are enabling Nigerian users to cut through gridlocks while creating massive jobs through the driver-partner scheme.

The study showed that a further one in 10 unemployed graduates were considering getting on the platform to earn a living, or had commenced the process to be signed on the platform as driver partners.

Taxify said in a statement that it was aggressively expanding its footprint in Africa.

In addition to its presence in Lagos and Abuja, the statement said Taxify was present in over six African cities and over 30 cities across Europe, the Middle East and Central America.

According to the statement, Taxify drivers will follow certain procedures before being allowed to drive on the platform.

It said after signing up to drive online and submitting all relevant authentic documents, drivers would be trained and made to pass through an onboard process before driving on the platform.

The drivers would then be evaluated by passengers after each trip to ensure that quality was maintained, the statement said.
