Gbenga Daniel, a former Governor of Ogun and an aspirant to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairmanship position, has stepped down from the race, hours after the party’s National Convention kicked off at the Eagle Square in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

Daniel at the convention ground on Saturday in Abuja, said he was withdrawing from the race to ensure peace and unity in the party.

Also, three other aspirants, namely, Olusegun Aderemi, Rasheed Ladoja and Taheed Adedoja, have withdrawn from the race.

As earlier reported by News Express, Chief Bode George was the first to withdraw on Friday night, followed this morning by former Lagos State governorship candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje.

The remaining candidates are Uche Secondus, Tunde Adeniran and Chief Raymond Dokpesi, who was earlier reported to have withdrawn from the race but insisted that he would see the entire process to the end. Analysts, however, say the race is a straight fight between Scondus and Adeniran.
