Pep Guardiola praises Manchester City “legend” Sergio Aguero

Pep Guardiola praised Manchester City “legend” Sergio Aguero, after the striker moved within three goals of the club’s all-time record.

The Argentina forward scored his sixth Premier League hat-trick as City beat Watford 6-0 on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has 175 goals since joining City in 2011, with Eric Brook holding the club record of 177 goals.

“Hopefully that [the record] will happen very soon, and we can have a big celebration,” said Guardiola.

Ex-England winger Brook, who was at City from 1928-1940, scored his goals in 494 appearances. Aguero has scored his goals in 259 games.

Guardiola added: “He’s a legend, and it’s a part of history in the club. Aguero’s numbers speak for themselves – he is amazing,”

Aguero’s hat-trick put him on 127 Premier League goals, moving him above Robbie Keane and Nicolas Anelka and level with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on the competition’s all-time list.

Former England striker and record Premier League goalscorer Alan Shearer challenged Aguero to get 30 league goals this season, with the Argentine on five goals in five games.

Aguero has scored 20-plus goals in four of the past six seasons, 26 being his highest tally in the 2014-15 campaign.

Ex-Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was the latest player to score 30, in the 2013-14 season. While Tottenham striker Harry Kane was the Premier League’s top scorer in the past two seasons with 29 and 25 goals.

“Aguero does two things really well. When he goes short he takes a defender into an area he’s not comfortable with” said  Phil Neville

“But when he runs in behind it’s very difficult because he’s so small with a low centre of gravity.”

“Watford could not get near Aguero,” added Shearer . “It was a top performance. For a centre-forward to play in this City team must be an absolute dream, with the chances created and the pace going forward.

“I think you are looking for Aguero to get 30 league goals this year with City going forward.”

BREAKING: Vincent #Aboubakar Masterclass Performance Seals #Cameroon Come Back From 2 Goals Down Against #Serbia

BREAKING: Vincent #Aboubakar Masterclass Performance Seals #Cameroon Come Back From 2 Goals Down Against #Serbia—-A tremendous game ended in a 3-3 draw, Serbia rebounding from a 1-0 deficit to take a 3-1 lead before Cameroon rushed back to level the match. Cameroon must now beat Brazil and hope, while a win over Switzerland should do it for Serbia.

With both sides needing a win, both went for it in an entertaining half, Serbia with the greater quality. But a well-taken corner earned Cameroon the lead, Jean-Charles Castelletto tapping home at the back post after a fine flick-on from Nicolas N’Koulou.

The setback knocked Serbia a little, but by the end of the 45, they were back in charge, scoring twice in six added minutes through Strahinja Pavlovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to turn the game around and, when Aleksandr Mitrovic added a third on 53 minutes, the game looked over.

But almost immediately afterwards, Rigobert Song sent on Vincent Boubakar, who scored a glorious livener – disallowed, then allowed by VAR and the semi-automatic offside situation – then set up Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting for a tap-in at the end of a terrific counter.

A draw does little for both sides, but the World Cup now has a new best game.

For years, football has fiddled with its laws, but done nothing about its timekeeping. Now, though, the minutes added on at the end of halves reflect something of what has gone on during them, and the six allocated to the first period in this game made a significant different to the match, Serbia taking the opportunity to score twice.

The system is not perfect – there is no reason we shouldn’t be able to see the ref’s watch displayed in the ground and on screens, and no when it’s stopped and when it’s running. But proficiency in timewasting shouLd not be an essential part of a footballer’s armoury, and Fifa finally taking action in this aspect made a significant contribution to the best match of the World Cup so far.

BREAKING: #Chelsea Sells Christian #Pulisic To Premier League Rivals?

BREAKING: #Chelsea Sells Christian #Pulisic To Premier League Rivals?—-According to Mail report, Christian Pulisic has attracted the attention of multiple Premier League clubs after putting in a Player of the Match performance in United States’ 0-0 draw against England at the World Cup.

TGM gathered that Manchester United, Newcastle United and Arsenal all have Pulisic on their radars ahead of the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old has just 18 months remaining on his contract at Chelsea and the Blues are considering the possibility of cashing in on Pulisic before the summer. Chelsea have slapped a £35 million price tag on the former Borussia Dortmund star.

Pulisic’s £58 million transfer to Chelsea back in 2019 has not really worked out. The winger was rated very highly as a youngster at Dortmund, but he has failed to replicate that form at Stamford Bridge.

It’s quite similar to Hakim Ziyech’s situation at Chelsea too. The pair haven’t really managed to get a consistent run of games, but we are seeing them shine at the 2022 World Cup. Obviously, there’s a top-quality player in there so Chelsea should be careful about selling Pulisic to a Premier League rival.

The 35-year-old is believed to be on a salary of around £1.2million-a-week and would take a pay cut at Inter, which is co-owned by ex-Real Madrid midfielder, David Beckham.

However, he would be by far the top earner the game in America has ever seen.

Messi has a home in Miami and is known to regularly holiday there.

The club are already trying to recruit other players who will fit with Messi’s style of play with former Barcelona team-mates Luis Suarez and Cesc Fabregas under consideration.
