Chevron Nigeria Limited, the operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation/CNL Joint Venture, said it had completed a 12-month on-the-job training for seven Nigerian graduates at its office and field locations.

The oil major said in a statement that a total of 14 graduates had benefitted from its internship programme since 2015, adding that the training was part of its efforts to assist with building organisational capability in the oil and gas industry.

It said the internship programme, which was in support of the Nigerian Content Human Capacity Development Initiative, covered various disciplines, including earth science, reservoir management as well as drilling and completions.

Chevron said the programme was executed in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, adding that it had spent over N300m on it since its inception in 2015.

The Chairman and Managing Director, CNL, Mr. Jeffrey Ewing, commended the partnership between the CNL and the NCDMB, saying the collaboration had been yielding positive results.

Ewing, who was represented at the graduation ceremony in Abuja by the company’s General Manager, Nigerian Content Development, Mr. Olusoga Oduselu, said, “Chevron prides itself in building capacity in Nigeria and in Nigerians. Our support for Nigerian content development goes beyond the implementation of the provision of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act.”

The Executive Secretary, NCDMB, Mr. Simbi Wabote, commended the CNL for its support of the NCHCDI and other initiatives of the NCDMB.

He said, “Chevron has been fantastic in its collaboration with the NCDMB, not only in the implementation of the NCHCDI programme, but in other initiatives of the board.”

One of the beneficiaries of the programme, Efe Akpovwovwo, was quoted as saying, “The internship programme in Chevron was an invaluable experience for me. Some of the skills I acquired in the technical area include well and seismic data interpretation, 3D simple petrel earth modelling, identification of work-over and infill drilling opportunities, use of Microsoft-Office software, well site drilling operations and inter-disciplinary understanding of reservoir management.”

Other notable NCHCDI achievements by Chevron companies in Nigeria include the training of 230 Nigerians as operators in South Africa for the Escravos gas-to-liquids project; training of 109 Nigerians in operations, maintenance and instrumentation in South Korea for Agbami Deepwater project; training of more than 400 Nigerians at a vocational training programme in Ogere.
