2017 FIBA Africa Championship : D’Tigers face Cameroon in q’finals

Champions D’Tigers will face Cameroon in the quarter-final of the 2017 FIBA Africa Championship on Thursday in Tunis.

The Nigerians finished top of Group A on specific points difference despite losing to DR Congo 83-77 on Sunday while Cameroon finished second in Group C behind Tunisia. DR Congo finished second and will play co-hosts Tunisia.

D’Tigers defeated Ivory Coast 78-77 before beating Mali 90-67 and lost 83-77 to DR Congo to gather five points – same as Mali and DR Congo.

According to FIBA, D’Tigers finished ahead of DR Congo because they had superior specific points difference. Nigeria, DR Congo and Mali finished on five points each after the completion of group matches on Sunday.

The scores from the matches which the three teams played against each other were calculated and Nigeria had a +17 difference from their 90-67 win over Mali and 83-77 loss to DR Congo. The Congolese have a +1 difference from their 87-82 loss to Mali and 83-77 win over Nigeria and Mali have a -18 specific points difference from their 90-67 loss to Nigeria and 87-82 win over DR Congo.

Cameroon qualified for the quarter-final after garnering five points from two wins and a loss. They defeated Guinea 96-54 before beating Rwanda 81-77. They however lost 68-51 to Tunisia.

D’Tigers have met Cameroon four times at the AfroBasket, with both sides ending as winners twice.
