Ramadan begins today — Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll, has announced the sighting of the moon to signal the commencement of this year’s Ramadan fast.

He made the announcement in his palace on Wednesday night. The Sultan confirmed the sighting of the moon by eminent personalities in many states of Nigeria such as Sokoto, Minna, Gombe, Zamfara, and Port Harcourt, among others.

He enjoined all Muslims to commence the fast today, Thursday,17th of May. He also urged the Muslim faithful to use the period of Ramadan to pray for the unity of Nigeria

The Sultan also advised all Muslims to use the month of Ramadan to pray for the country  and continue to live in peace.
