To commemorate this year International Women’s Day, Nigerian foremost Athlete and first Olympic Medalist, Ms Chioma Ajunwa (MON) will honour the fitness program to be organized by The African Women Network (TAWN) as a Guest Speaker on Saturday March 17th 2018 at the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos.
Ajunwa who coincidentally is a Senior Police Officer and a Member of the Niger (MON) won the Olympic medal for long jump in the year 1996 at the Atlanta Olympic Games where her first round leap of 7.12 meters stood her out in the record books. Though a retired long jumper, she is still respected as a national hero in Nigeria because she became Nigerian’s first and only individual Olympic Gold Medalist till date, as well as the First African Woman to claim the top spot in a field event.
At the TAWN fitness event, Ajunwa will be speaking to African women on fitness and how this has and will help the African women keep fit, stay strong and rise to stardom too.
According to the President of TAWN, Mrs. Gifted .O. Martins,  Ms Chioma Ajunwa has achieved a lot in the world of Athletics and no one knows better than her in this regards. “The African Women Network (TAWN) is a networking group launched to stimulate women’s leadership in Africa and increase their participation and influence in business, politics and peacemaking. It is a platform to advance, train and support female leaders. The network encourages women to become entrepreneurs, and also encourages women in business to grow. The network also pushes for policies that empower and enable women across the political, economic and humanitarian fields. It’s a great honour to have Ms Chioma Ajunwa grace our occasion having achieved a great feat in the world of athletics. Nobody knows it better than a woman who has achieved the highest feat in the world of athletics. We encourage Nigerian women out there to be part of the event in order to learn from our hero who will be speaking to us on that day, and also partake in the fitness event which is good to be practiced for lifestyle and leisure.”
Speaking on the event, a member of TAWN, Ms. Ewomazino Harriet Efijemue, Creative Director of Zherb Rillers Couture, reiterated that she joined TAWN because of the numerous benefits of the group. “I love TAWN, and I love what they do. It has opened my eyes to so many things I didn’t know earlier on. I’ve learnt how to be a leader and how to appreciate being a woman that I am. It has also opportunities to wider ideas in business and more doors to business opportunities, and the likes. I’m glad we are going to be having Chioma Ajunwa and some other celebrities in our midst. It’s a privilege to see someone who has recorded achievements in her world, and also learn from her”.
Other activities aside from the Guest Speakers lecture include, Training on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Dance, Aerobics, Business and Social Networking, and the likes.

The African Women Network (TAWN) is aimed at educating, empowering, interacting and networking for women.
