Premiership League leader, Manchester City, made their return to the Champions League knock-out stages in scintillating fashion as they thrashed FC Basel 4-0 away from home.

City travelled to Switzerland for the leg of their last-16 tie and hammered a wasteful Basel side to all but book their place in the next round of the competition.

Pep Guardiola’s side arguably settled the tie in the first half, scoring three well-worked goals, finished off by Ilkay Gundogan , Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero.

Gundogan scored his second, and City’s fourth, with a brilliant second-half strike as the Premier League leaders dazzled at St. Jakob Park. In a bizarre first half, Basel (who defeated City’s rivals Manchester United in the group-stages) created a huge amount of chances.

With a little more composure and attacking panache, they might have still been in the tie – but it wasn’t to be for the Swiss side as they fell to an embarrassing defeat, and face a near-impossible task when they travel to England for the second leg in three weeks.

Elsewhere at the Allianz Stadium in Italy,   Harry Kane led a brilliant Tottenham fight back as Mauricio Pochettino’s pulled off a major Champions League upset by playing 2-2 draw with Juventus.
Kane and Christian Eriksen were both on target as Tottenham shocked European giants Juventus to give themselves a glorious chance of reaching the quarter finals. Tottenham will know they could have been dead and buried as Gonzalo Higuain put Juventus two goals up within eight minutes and then missed a 45th minute penalty.
But Mauricio Pochettino’s men put on a brave fight back and Kane’s brilliantly executed 35th minute strike gave them hope. Dele Alli’s wonderful through ball released Kane who rounded Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon before scoring against a defence which had only conceded one goal in their previous 16 games. But Tottenham’s night was not over as Eriksen’s low 72nd minute free kick gave them an equalizer and must surely make Pochettino’s men favourites to go through.
