Ryan Shawcross suffered a horrific and serious leg break in Stoke’s pre-season friendly with Leicester.

Moments before half-time, Ryan Shawcross, the central defender’s left ankle appeared to get caught in the turf and bend backwards as he reached to clear the ball ahead of Leicester midfielder Marc Albrighton.

The game was immediately stopped as the Ryan Shawcross laid on the turf in severe pain after the leg break with players from both sides rushing to his aid.

Shawcross had to be given oxygen by medics while they treated him and it took them eight minutes before he was led away on the stretcher.

He was reportedly taken into an ambulance to go straight to hospital as it is thought he was suffered an ankle break.

The game ended 2-1 to Leicester, Albrighton and Youri Tielemans on the scoresheet for the Foxes with Nick Powell claiming Stoke’s consolation.

After the game, Stoke boss Nathan Jones said: “No injury is good but this one is definitely not good.

Stoke manager Nathan Jones is likely to lose his captain and central defender for a significant period of time till he recovers.
