AWKA – Hon. Bonaventure Enemali, the Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, gas said that Governor Willie Obiano has taken over 10, 000 youths off the streets of Anambra State by empowering them with several skills for self-reliance to enable them contribute their quota to the growth of the economy .
The commissioner who spoke exclusively to DAILY INDEPENDENT in Awka, Anambra state capital, during the weekend, disclosed that Obiano had kept his promises of ensuring that youths in the state were engaged meaningfully to stem vices inimical to their welfare and well-being.
Enemali said: “The Governor made a promise that 10,000 youths would be trained every year. In line with that, the one youth, one skill is ongoing in Anambra and for one year now 10,000 youths have been trained. We have done three batches. The first batch was 250, the second batch was 750 and the next batch is coming up in May this year.”
The commissioner explained that what government did in the one youth, one skill was that youths were allowed to choose their own specialty and government took them on a three-month intensive training after, which successful candidates were given start-up packs.
He disclosed that the state’s Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy was currently working with IBM to commence Digital Nation Africa Project where youths with propensity and proclivity for ICT would develop their skills as well as develop their own softwares and applications .
He said it was a five-year project aimed at developing over 50, 000 youths in Anambra state. Speaking further , he said the Anambra State Sculptors Exhibition would be coming up sometime in June this year where young sculptors would be given the opportunity to showcase their artworks and ingenuity.
Enemali said Anambra Talent Hunt Show was slated for August this year and that Obiano had approved funds for the successful hosting of the show, adding that the talent hunt provided platform to discover, develop and deploy young talents to a whole new world of fame and fortune .
