After being snubbed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the BBC, Victor Moses has been named Goal Africa Player for 2017.

Moses, 27, saw off competition from Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Guinean Naby Keita, Sadio Mane of Senegal and Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah.

In an article published on Friday, Goal.com explains: “Moses enjoyed a remarkable transformation during the 2016-17 season, winning over the doubters and earning his place at Chelsea despite appearing destined for the exit door.

“He was introduced into the starting lineup in late 2016 in an unfamiliar wing-back role after Antonio Conte saw in the former Crystal Palace attacker a key solution to a problem position.

“Throughout early 2017, Moses was a key figure for the Pensioners as they won the Premier League title, with the wideman only losing twice—against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United—before the FA Cup final defeat by Arsenal.”

Aside from his prowess for the Blues, Moses was equally influential as the Super Eagles booked its ticket for next year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Moses scored three goals and set up one en route to the Mundial.

Launched in 2004, Goal is the largest online football publication in the world, and the second online sports publication behind ESPN.

It represents one of the biggest football communities in the world with 19 language versions covering more than 50 countries, including Nigeria.
