The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has disclosed why the Senate rejected the candidacy of Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Saraki explained that the Presidency refused to follow standard global practice when the lawmakers refused to confirm Magu as the substantive boss of the EFCC.

Saraki was speaking on Monday during an orientation programme organised by the National Assembly management for newly elected federal lawmakers.

According to him, the presidency should have either presented another nominee or employ the political solution of lobbying the leadership of the Senate.

The Senate President maintained that the legislators reserve the right to either confirm or reject presidential nominees in the interest of the nation.

The Senate rejected Magu on the three occasions that the presidency presented his nomination, citing an unfavourable memo against him by the Department of State Services.
