The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Nasir El-Rufai winner of the governorship election in Kaduna State.

The state collation officer, Prof. Muhammed Bello, said on Monday that El-Rufai polled 1,045,427 votes to defeat his closest rival, Isa Ashiru of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 814,168 votes.

A margin of 231,259 votes stands between both candidates.

“That Nasir El-Rufai of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and having scored the highest number of votes is hereby returned and elected,” Mr Bello said.

Elections were held in the 23 local governments of the state on Saturday, El-Rufai won in 14 local governments while Mr Ashiru won in nine.
