The Rivers State Police Command said it had arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of one Chimezie Dike for allegedly pasting campaign posters on the wall of a building.

The command also stated that it had begun investigation to ascertain the identity of the soldier, whose dagger was used to stab Dike.

It was gathered that one of those arrested was Ifeoma Ekeozor, the mother of Henry, the man who allegedly stabbed Dike in the chest on Saturday.

Speaking with Southern City News in Port Harcourt, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Nnamdi Omoni, said the police would find out where the soldier was serving.

Omoni stated, “Two persons have been arrested in connection with the death of the young man and investigation is ongoing to unravel where the soldier is serving.

“We are also investigating to unravel the circumstances that led to the stabbing and killing of the young man.”

Explaining that those arrested had been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Port Harcourt, Omoni vowed that any person found culpable in the matter would be prosecuted according to the law.

Dike was on Saturday stabbed to death during a fight with one Henry Ekeozor around 8.20pm at 40B Azikiwe Street, Mile 2, Diobu, Port Harcourt.

The deceased, according to sources, was not a member of the All Progressives Congress, but was contracted to paste campaign posters of Collyns Owondah, a House of Representatives candidate of the party.

Henry and his mother, Ifeoma Ekeozor, a woman leader of the APC in the area, had expressed dissatisfaction over the pasting of campaign posters of the candidate on the wall of their residence.

The disapproval by the duo reportedly caused a fierce argument between them and Dike, a development that degenerated into a fight in which Dike was stabbed in the chest.

A source said Dike had bled to death, even before he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead by doctors.
