BREAKING: Popular Nollywood Actor Steven Echendu Is Dead [PHOTO]
Nollywood actor Steven Echendu has died, according to a tribute by his colleague, Wisdom Nwankwo, who said he learnt of the actor’s passing on Thursday.
Nwankwo announced the death in a Facebook post in which he also mourned Austinfair Nwaulu, a media professional involved in Nollywood activities, who he said died on Saturday and was buried on Tuesday.
Reflecting on the losses, Nwankwo urged people to check on friends who had been absent from their social media timelines.
“I don’t take chills in doing this but I am really touched and pained, please sometimes if you don’t see people on your timeline for a month or even less and they are regular in your list please check on them,” he wrote.
He described both men as friends who contributed to the development of Nollywood.
“Its quite a sad note on my side to learn of the passing of two of my friends here and nollywood, we were very active in making nollywood what it is today,” he said.
Paying tribute to Nwaulu, Nwankwo recalled his involvement in the industry’s activities.
“Austinfair Nwaulu was one of the media gurus who use to participate in all our activities in nollywood, very sad to not he passed on Saturday and was laid on Tuesday,” he wrote.
On Echendu, he said: “Oh Steven Real Stephen Echendu it’s so painful to also learnt of your passing yesterday, you were also one of the gladiators then in nollywood Ojs production main man.”
Nwankwo described the losses as occurring within five days and reflected on the uncertainty of life.
“Just a space of 5 days oh Lord let your will always prevail.”
He concluded the tribute with a prayer for the deceased, writing, “Oh Lord grant them your light on their way to great beyond. Peace profound”.
Details about Echendu’s age, cause of death and burial arrangements were not provided in the tribute.
The announcement comes as Nollywood also mourns actor Francis Duru, whose death was announced by his family on Friday, October 23, 2026. However, the available information does not establish the exact timeline of Echendu’s death in relation to Duru’s passing.
