Vulcan Glow XII: GOC Lauds Artillery Corps On Professionalism, Unity
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, has commended the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery for promoting professionalism, unity and troop morale through Exercise Vulcan Glow XII.
Wase gave the commendation at the Campfire Night organised as part of the 2026 Vulcan Training Period and Exercise Vulcan Glow XII at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery, Kachia, Kaduna State, on Thursday.
He described the exercise as a time-honoured military training programme designed to produce proficient artillery officers and soldiers capable of delivering timely and accurate fire support.
The GOC, who was the Special Guest of Honour, said the exercise also provided an opportunity to strengthen the bond among serving and retired officers, while sustaining the Corps’ traditions and professional values.
He noted that realistic field training remained essential to enhancing operational effectiveness and preparing personnel to address contemporary security challenges.
Wase said the exercise aligned with the Corps’ commitment to repositioning artillery capabilities for effective fire support to Nigerian Army operations in joint and multi-agency environments.
He also commended participating formations for their discipline, endurance and competitive spirit, urging personnel to sustain the momentum and apply lessons learnt during the exercise in their respective units.
The GOC emphasised the importance of troops’ welfare and sound administration, describing the Campfire Night as an opportunity to promote camaraderie, mutual understanding and stronger relationships among personnel.
He expressed appreciation to the Commander, Corps of Artillery, Maj.-Gen. John Adeyemo, the Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Artillery, serving and retired senior officers, and other stakeholders for their contributions to the exercise.
Earlier, Adeyemo welcomed serving and retired officers, special guests and participating units to the 12th edition of the annual Campfire night, describing their presence as evidence of the enduring bond within the Gunners’ family.
He said the gathering was designed to provide personnel with an opportunity to relax, interact and strengthen the spirit of comradeship after the demands of military training.
The commander urged officers and soldiers to celebrate responsibly and uphold the discipline and professionalism for which the Corps was known.
Adeyemo also paid tribute to military personnel deployed across various theatres of operation, noting that their sacrifices in defence of the country underscored the collective responsibility to protect Nigeria’s national security and territorial integrity.
Newsmen reports that Exercise Vulcan Glow XII is part of the Corps’ annual training activities aimed at enhancing professional competence and operational readiness.
The exercise is expected to culminate in a firepower demonstration showcasing the capabilities of artillery personnel and equipment.
