New Vice-Chancellor Of LASU Professor Badejo Unveils Eight-Point Agenda
The new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo, has unveiled an eight-point strategic agenda aimed at positioning the institution as globally competitive, locally relevant and future-ready.
Badejo, who assumed office on September 21, 2026, outlined the agenda while addressing the university’s Committee of Provosts, Deans and Directors at the Senate Chamber.
The eight pillars are academic excellence and quality assurance; research, innovation and global visibility; financial sustainability and resource mobilisation; infrastructure and digital transformation; staff welfare and industrial harmony; student welfare, mentorship and employability; governance, integrity and institutional visibility; and community engagement and societal impact.
Under academic excellence, the Vice-Chancellor said the university would pursue full accreditation for its programmes while strengthening curriculum relevance, innovation and entrepreneurship.
On research, she said her administration would promote solution-driven research with measurable societal impact, expand international research partnerships and improve the university’s global visibility.
Badejo also identified grants, endowments, consultancy services and strategic partnerships as avenues for diversifying LASU’s revenue base and strengthening its financial sustainability.
The agenda further places emphasis on infrastructure and digital transformation, including the deployment of artificial intelligence and other digital tools to improve teaching and administrative processes.
The Vice-Chancellor also announced plans to establish at least one smart classroom in every faculty within the next year.
Staff welfare and industrial harmony form another key part of the agenda, with plans for merit-based professional development, inclusive engagement with unions and sustained institutional capacity building.
For students, Badejo said her administration would strengthen mentorship, employability initiatives and support systems, including mental health support.
The remaining pillars focus on governance and institutional integrity, as well as stronger engagement with host communities and the wider society.
Badejo said implementation would require collective effort from staff, students, management and other stakeholders, while pledging to lead with humility, integrity and dedication.
Her appointment makes her the 10th substantive Vice-Chancellor of LASU and the third woman to occupy the position. She succeeded Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure ended in September.
