BREAKING: Cristiano Ronaldo Benched As Portugal Defeat Norway
Portugal secured a 2-1 victory over Norway in the Nations League as Cristiano Ronaldo remained an unused substitute.
As reported by BBC Sport on Sunday, João Félix gave Portugal the lead with his second goal in as many games before Erling Haaland levelled for Norway early in the second half.
The goal was Haaland’s 65th for Norway and his 22nd in the Nations League, extending his record as the competition’s leading scorer.
Portugal quickly regained the advantage, however, after Norway goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland made a costly mistake.
Nyland played the ball straight to Gonçalo Ramos, who calmly chipped the goalkeeper to make it 2-1.
Ramos came close to adding another before firing wide, while Rafael Leão saw a deflected effort hit the bar.
Ramos later appeared to score again, but VAR ruled out the goal for offside following another error by Nyland.
Ronaldo, 41, watched from the bench throughout as he continues his pursuit of 1,000 career goals.
He remains 21 goals short of the landmark.
Portugal were also without captain Bruno Fernandes, who missed the match through injury.
The victory gave Portugal two wins from two in this season’s Nations League campaign, while Norway were left to rue their goalkeeper’s costly mistakes.
