Actress Chidera Adiele Claims She Was Abused By 3 Different Uncles From Age Six
Actress and art curator Chidera Adiele has revealed that she was abused by three different uncles between the ages of six and thirteen.
Chidera made the disclosure during an episode of Talk to B podcast hosted by Biola Adebayo on Friday, where she spoke about her childhood, family and experiences growing up.
According to her, growing up in a typical Igbo home, her brother was given more freedom because he was considered the heir, while she was often confined to the house by her parents.
She said the restrictions her parents imposed in an attempt to protect her ultimately exposed her to abuse within the home.
She said, “Imagine being locked in a four-bedroom flat, and the things that they thought they were protecting me from by not letting me go out to play now started to happen to me inside the house, like right under their noses. Like if they were even paying attention, they would have found out.”
Chidera stressed that the abuse was not an isolated incident and involved three different uncles.

She said: “Because it wasn’t once. It wasn’t twice. It wasn’t even… It was three different, on several occasions. It wasn’t a one-time thing. From six going on seven till I was 13.”
The actress also revealed that she began smoking at about 13 and continued until she became pregnant at 20. She said her pregnancy eventually made her quit.
She further spoke about her brother’s subsequent struggles, describing him as intelligent and talented, and recalled how his behaviour changed after he returned from school.
“I love my parents, but I’m not going to erase their failure. I wouldn’t have come out to talk about it if they had taken accountability,” she said.
Chidera also recounted her family’s attempts to get her brother help, alleging that her mother removed him from rehabilitation centres twice and took him to church because she believed his condition was spiritual.
She said her brother subsequently became violent towards their mother, alleging that on one occasion he held her by the neck and attempted to throw her from upstairs.

The actress had earlier made a public appeal for help over her brother’s struggles with drug addiction and mental health issues.
In July 2026, Chidera said she had become the primary caregiver for her brother and had sought treatment for him at several facilities. She appealed for assistance after saying that the situation had become difficult for her to manage.
Reports at the time said her brother had received treatment at facilities including the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital in Yaba and the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Yaba. Chidera said he spent three months at the military hospital before he was discharged.
She also expressed concern about the safety of her daughter and said she needed help finding a lasting solution to her brother’s condition.
Chidera’s appeal came as she spoke openly about the effect of years of dealing with her brother’s condition and the financial and emotional burden it had placed on her and her family.
