BREAKING: Finally, Osun APC Governorship Candidate Accepts INEC Outcome After Losing to Adeleke

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji, has spoken after losing the election to incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Oyebamiji accepted the outcome announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while expressing concerns over alleged attacks on APC members and supporters following the election.

Adeleke, the candidate of the Accord Party, was declared winner after securing 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes.

Oyebamiji accepts election result

In a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday, Oyebamiji thanked APC leaders, members, supporters, volunteers and voters for their commitment throughout the campaign.

The former commissioner said the party had hoped for a different outcome but would respect the position of the electoral umpire as it reviews the result.

“Although, we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, in the meantime, we respect the position of the electoral umpire and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” he said.

Candidate vows to continue working for Osun

Oyebamiji said the end of the campaign and election would not bring an end to the issues and principles that guided his political campaign.

He promised to continue advocating for effective, inclusive and rapid development across Osun State.

“The campaign has come to an end and the election is over, but the values and causes we championed are alive. We would continue to work for effective, inclusive and rapid development of our dear Osun,” he said.

Oyebamiji raises concern over alleged attacks

Despite accepting the result, Oyebamiji raised concerns over what he described as growing hostility and violence against APC members and supporters after the election.

“At the same time, I wish to alert the State Government and security agents to the growing trend of hostility and violence against our members and supporters,” he said.

According to him, alleged attacks recorded against APC supporters before the election had intensified within the 24 hours after the poll.

He urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene urgently and protect residents, particularly APC members and supporters who he alleged were being targeted.

Appeal to supporters

Oyebamiji called on his supporters to remain calm, avoid confrontation and continue their activities peacefully.

He said he remained proud of the campaign despite the outcome and expressed appreciation to those who supported his candidacy.

“I remain proud of the campaign we ran,” he said.

Oyebamiji’s comments come as the APC reviews the outcome of the election and considers its next course of action following Adeleke’s victory.

His acceptance of the INEC declaration and appeal for calm come amid efforts to prevent post-election tensions from escalating across Osun State.
