BREAKING: Buhari Did Not Create Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi Led PFIPC Agency
The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has rejected claims that the late President Muhammadu Buhari created the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), describing the allegation as false.
In a statement released on Sunday, the group said Buhari established only the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), not the PFIPC, which the Presidency has declared fake and which is now under investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The response followed comments by the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Tanimu Yakubu, who told the House of Representatives that the PFIPC traced its roots to the Presidential Economic Advisory Council launched by Buhari on October 9, 2019.
Yakubu said, “PEAC/PFIPC did not enter the 2026 budget merely because it asked for funds. The council had its origin in the Presidential Economic Advisory Council inaugurated during the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari on Oct. 9, 2019.”
However, the BMO insisted the claim was incorrect. According to the organisation, the PEAC was only an advisory body comprising economists and financial experts led by Prof. Doyin Salami.
The group explained that the PEAC did not have a budget line during Buhari’s administration. Instead, its activities were funded through presidential approvals handled by the Minister of Finance.
It also said members of the council were not paid salaries, adding that “They were not paid salaries but office expenses were paid by the Permanent Secretary, State House, upon approval by the president.”
The BMO further stated that after President Bola Tinubu took office in 2023, the Buhari-appointed PEAC was neither dissolved nor reappointed.
It said the members considered their appointments to have ended when Buhari left office, while the office used by the council remained vacant until it was later occupied by others.
The organisation maintained that reports linking the ongoing PFIPC controversy to the Buhari administration were false, groundless and without any factual basis.
