BREAKING: Nigerian FG Blasted As US Congressman Demands Immediate Release of Nnamdi Kanu

A member of the United States Congress, John James, has called on the Nigerian government to immediately and unconditionally release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, while urging authorities to uphold his fundamental rights and ensure due process.

Speaking on the floor of the US Congress on Thursday, James criticized the Nigerian government, accusing it of failing to adequately protect innocent citizens and alleging that authorities have not done enough to stop the continued killing of Nigerians.

The Republican lawmaker insisted that any legal proceedings involving Kanu should be conducted strictly in accordance with Nigeria’s Constitution and international legal standards. He said the IPOB leader should have unrestricted access to legal representation, proper medical care, and humane conditions of detention.   James also described Nigeria as “the deadliest place on earth to be a Christian,” alleging that extremist groups, including Boko Haram, continue to operate without a sufficient response from the authorities.

He further claimed that Kanu was convicted following what he described as a “false show trial” for speaking out about developments in Nigeria, alleging that the separatist leader is serving a life sentence based on what he called false terrorism charges.

Appealing to fellow members of Congress, James urged support for legislation seeking Kanu’s release.

“I implore my colleagues to support my bill for the Nigerian government to release Nnamdi Kanu immediately and unconditionally,” he said.

The congressman also questioned continued US financial assistance to Nigeria, stating, “America gives billions of dollars to Nigeria. We will not continue to fund Christian genocide.”

He added that the United States has a moral responsibility to defend persecuted Christians around the world.

“We have the moral obligation to stand up, so that our Christian brothers and sisters can worship the Lord our God in peace,” James said.

His remarks have once again drawn international attention to Kanu’s ongoing legal battle, which has remained a contentious issue both within Nigeria and abroad.

While Kanu’s supporters continue to demand his release, the Nigerian government has consistently maintained that the case is before the courts and should be resolved through the country’s judicial process.
