BREAKING: NFF Agree New Contract With Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle [DETAILS]
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) have agreed a new and improved contract with Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.
This was confirmed by National Sports Commission (NSC) chairman, Shehu Dikko, at a meeting with officials of the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation in Abuja today.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Dikko said “We have reached new terms with the coach about his new remuneration. We are also going to take care of his assistants, and there are other benchmarks that we have put on the table, and I’m sure the coach will be very excited about it.”
His hand-picked assistants will also now be paid by the football federation as against the previous arrangement where he paid them himself.
Eric Chelle and his assistants will also take on full responsibility for Nigeria’s U-23 team as preparations begin for the men’s football event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
“With the NFF, we also agreed that the coach will take care of the U-23 national team because we have young players coming into the Super Eagles within that age bracket.
“So, Eric Chelle and his team, plus other people who will support them. The objective is not to give the coach more work but to start building for the future,” Dikko added.
The former Mali coach became Nigeria coach in January 2025. He signed a two-year contract with option for an additional year based on performance.
He was first mandated to qualify the country to the 2026 World Cup, which he failed to do, and he was then tasked to reach the final of the 2025 AFCON. The Super Eagles placed third at the 2025 AFCON hosted by Morocco in February.
