Sad Moment Christian Eriksen Collapses Again [WATCH HERE]
Denmark midfielder, Christian Eriksen collapsed during his country’s international friendly against Ukraine on Sunday and is currently receiving medical attention, five years after suffering a cardiac arrest during the European Championship.
The 34-year-old footballer went down in the 65th minute after appearing to clutch his chest, prompting immediate concern among players, officials and fans.
The match, which was being played in Odense, was subsequently abandoned as medical personnel rushed to his aid.
Denmark’s Football Association later reassured supporters about Eriksen’s condition.
“Christian Eriksen is conscious and is doing well under the circumstances,” the federation said in a social media post.
Denmark national team doctor Morten Boesen, who played a key role in saving Eriksen’s life following his collapse at Euro 2020, provided a positive update on the midfielder’s condition.
“Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself.
“As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should.
“He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly and we were quickly in contact with him.
“He will undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital.
“But Christian is doing well, and asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them he was OK,” he said.
Denmark captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg witnessed the incident from the pitch and described the moments following Eriksen’s collapse.
“There’s a throw-in. I go out to the side and I turn around a bit, and I see Christian on his way to the floor. We know a little about how he reacts, what that means.
“(Everyone) reacted super-fast and with respect. I can only compliment how much courage those who took care of Christian on the field had.
“I can’t say much more than you get a shock. The most important thing is that Christian is doing well.”
As medics attended to Eriksen, players from both Denmark and Ukraine formed a protective circle around him.
Following the abandonment of the match, members of both teams stood arm in arm in a show of unity and support.
Denmark head coach Brian Riemer praised the response from everyone involved and emphasized the importance of standing together during a difficult moment.
“The most important thing is that Christian is doing well and he is. He has left the field and he has sent his regards to the players,” Riemer said.
“Now it’s about us standing together, as you could see that we did in the most dignified way on the field. So it’s about standing together now and of course ensuring that everyone has a shoulder to lean on from here.”
