JUST IN: Popular Blogger And Activist Justice Crack Freed From DSS Custody [VIDEO]
Human rights activist and blogger, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, has regained freedom from the custody of the Department of State Services.
His release was announced on Thursday night by activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, in a post on 𝕏.
The Genius Media Nigeria reports that Sowore described Chidiebere’s detention as unjust and unlawful.
Announcing the development, Sowore said the blogger had finally regained his freedom.
Sowore wrote, “Justice Crack is out now. He is finally free from the unjust detention imposed by the lawless Department of State Services (DSS).
“This victory belongs to all who spoke out, resisted intimidation, and demanded justice.”
Sowore had earlier raised concerns over alleged attempts by the DSS to frustrate Chidiebere’s release despite meeting most of his bail conditions.
He accused the secret police of withholding the activist’s international passport, thereby complicating the final process required for his release.
Chidiebere is being prosecuted by the DSS over alleged cybercrime offences linked to a viral video concerning the Nigerian Army.
Court Granted ₦5 Million Bail
The Federal High Court in Abuja granted Chidiebere bail on May 18, 2026, in the sum of ₦5m, with one surety in like sum.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, while ruling on the bail application, ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must have maintained a fixed residential address for at least four years.
The court also directed that the surety must provide proof of residence, either a tenancy agreement or a certificate of occupancy, to be deposited with the court registry.
The judge further ordered that the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 15.
The surety was also required to provide evidence of at least three months’ salary payments, a letter of authentication from the immediate head of the department, and proof of pensionable employment.
Justice Abdulmalik also directed the surety to depose to an affidavit of means and submit a recent passport photograph to the court.
The defendant was ordered to deposit his passport with the court as part of the bail conditions.
