Tension rose again in the Middle East as Iran moved to shut the Strait of Hormuz following fresh Israeli attacks in Lebanon.

The Genius Media Nigeria reports that the development came on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, shortly after the United States, Iran and Israel agreed on a two-week pause in hostilities.

According to Associated Press, the agreement was meant to end over a month of intense conflict, but new attacks and disagreements over the terms have already put it under pressure.

Iran said it closed the important waterway in reaction to Israeli strikes on Lebanon, where attacks hit crowded areas in Beirut.

According to reports, at least 112 people were killed and hundreds injured in one of the deadliest days in the ongoing clashes involving Hezbollah.

The situation has forced many people to flee their homes, with over a million already displaced in the past month.

The United States reacted by calling on Iran to reopen the strait without delay.

The route is a key channel for global oil shipments, and any disruption could affect supply and prices worldwide.

American officials also insisted that the ceasefire includes free movement through the strait, without any form of payment or restriction.

However, there are conflicting claims over what was agreed.

Iran said it may introduce charges for ships passing through the waterway, while the U.S. government rejected such an idea.

This disagreement has added to the uncertainty surrounding the deal.
