BREAKING: Governor Sanwo-Olu Appoints Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo As 6th Chancellor Of LASU
IN a landmark move, the governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University (LASU), Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has appointed His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, as the 6th Chancellor of the prestigious institution.
The appointment comes on the heels of the completion of the tenure of Professor Gbolahan Elias, (SAN), who served with distinction as the 5th Chancellor. The Lagos State Government and the entire LASU community expressed gratitude for Professor Elias’s dedication and the dignity with which he represented the University throughout his tenure.
Made under the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), Chapter L69, Volume 7, Schedule 1, the appointment empowers the Visitor of the University to select its Chancellor. Oba Ogunsanwo’s term is set for five years, effective from Friday, 13th February 2026, with the possibility of renewal for a single additional term.
In a statement, the Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor congratulated His Majesty on the distinguished appointment, expressing optimism that his leadership would advance LASU’s vision and mission, strengthening the institution’s academic and societal impact.
The Lagos State University Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu, officially conveyed the announcement to the University community on Sunday, 15th February 2026.
This appointment underscores LASU’s commitment to blending tradition and modern academic excellence, with the selection of a respected traditional ruler promising a period of strengthened leadership and community engagement.
