Sections of the popular Army Arena Market in Oshodi, Lagos State, were engulfed by fire.

The Genius Media Nigeria reports that the incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, threw traders at the market into panic and confusion.

The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) via its official 𝕏 handle, noting that its operatives were on site to extinguish the fire.

The post read, “There’s a fire outbreak inside Arena Shopping Mall along Agege Motor Road, Oshodi. Men of @LagosRescue are on ground to extinguish the inferno.”

In related news, tension gripped residents of the Tumfure area of Gombe metropolis after a fuel tanker caught fire while offloading diesel at the Rain Oil Filling Station.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the day, was swiftly brought under control by operatives of the Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, preventing what officials described as a potential large-scale disaster.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service in the state, ASF MB Muazu, said firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene after a distress call was received.

According to him, the quick intervention and professionalism of the officers ensured that the fire did not completely engulf the tanker or spread to surrounding facilities.

“Upon receiving the distress call, our officers were immediately mobilised to the scene. Through timely and professional intervention, the fire was successfully contained, averting a potentially catastrophic situation,” Muazu said.

Muazu explained that the incident’s location made the situation particularly dangerous, noting that the filling station is located in a highly sensitive commercial zone.

He said the area is close to other filling stations, busy commercial centres and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited depot in Tumfure.
