Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, Chris Okafor, has publicly apologized to Nollywood actress, Doris Ogala.
The Genius Media Nigeria reports that the apology comes after days of controversy linked to their relationship and her arrest by the police.
The pastor spoke during a livestream, admitting that mistakes had been made in the past.
He also stated that the claims against him were not true, but apologised to everyone who felt hurt.
He asked for forgiveness from Ogala and others, saying he was willing to make peace and make amends where needed.
During the service, the pastor knelt before members of the church while making the apology and said it was both a personal and public step.
He said: “Listen, we’re not joining issues. Mistakes have been made in the past. And I tender apology to everybody.
“But everything that was said is not true. Everything, take note, everything that was said was never true. There are so many lies in most of the things that were said.
“But be it. I say I am sorry to everyone I have offended. To Doris Ogala, I also say sorry.
“And I apologize to everyone that I have offended. And once again, I repeat this. I’m ready to make restitution to anyone.
“And anybody, any lady, anywhere, or man I have offended, I am sorry. Forgive me. I am not perfect. I’ve never been perfect.
“I’m kneeling down before everyone. And before the church.”
The apology followed the series of events that led to Ogala’s arrest and later release.
She was earlier detained in Abuja, granted bail, then rearrested and taken to Lagos by officers attached to Zone 2.
Her lawyer was said to have been attacked while trying to record police activity, and his phones were taken.
After the intervention of activists, she was freed in Lagos.
It was later gathered that Okafor met Ogala at Zone 2 Command in Onikan, where he appealed for peace.
During a closed-door meeting, he reportedly went on his knees while asking for settlement before she was released again on health grounds.
The clash between both sides began after Ogala accused the preacher of failing to keep an alleged promise of marriage.
Through her lawyers, she demanded N1 billion in damages for emotional pain, damage to her name and financial loss.
She claimed the relationship started in 2017 and involved family introductions and money transfers, including about N45 million.
