Next Action Over Genocide Revealed As Donald Trump Says Nigeria Is A Disgrace
United States President, Donald Trump, has intensified his criticism of Nigeria, describing the country as “a disgrace” while accusing the Federal Government of failing to curb extremist attacks on Christian communities.
Speaking during an appearance on a conservative radio programme on Friday, Trump repeated his threat to launch military action against Islamist militants in Nigeria if the government does not “do more”.
He said, “Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace. They’re killing people by the thousands. It’s a genocide, and I’m really angry about it. And we pay, you know, we give a lot of subsidies to Nigeria. We’re going to end up stopping.”
Trump’s comments came barely 24 hours after US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth met with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, at the Pentagon.
Hegseth subsequently posted on 𝕏 that the meeting focused on “the horrific violence against Christians in their country,” adding, “Under @POTUS leadership, DOW is working aggressively with Nigeria to end the persecution of Christians by jihadist terrorists.”
In a statement, the Pentagon said the discussions highlighted “tangible progress” in Nigeria’s efforts to combat jihadist groups and protect vulnerable communities.
Although Nigeria has endured decades of ethnoreligious conflict affecting both Christians and Muslims, the claim that Christians are facing “state-enabled genocide” has gained traction within US conservative circles.
