BREAKING: Justice Omotosho Says IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Is An International Terrorist
A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday delivered a dramatic ruling as Justice Mobolaji Omotosho designated detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, as an “international terrorist”, citing allegations contained in the case files before the court.
Delivering judgment, Justice Omotosho said the designation was based on claims presented to the court that Kanu had “the intention to bomb the British High Commission in Abuja and assassinate the former British High Commissioner, Catriona Laing.”
The judge stated that such allegations—though forming part of the prosecution’s submissions—met the threshold required under Nigeria’s Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act for classification as international terrorism.
Under international law, the premises of an embassy or high commission are considered sovereign territory and cannot be invaded or subjected to hostile action by the host state.
Referencing this principle, Justice Omotosho argued that any alleged plot targeting diplomatic grounds automatically carries cross-border implications.
