BREAKING: Historic As Chiamaka Nnadozie Wins CAF Women’s Goalkeeper Of The Year For 3rd Time Running
SUPER Falcons of Nigeria star Chiamaka Nnadozie won a record third straight Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year prize at the CAF Awards tonight, while Moroccans Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak shone brightest at the ceremony in their home country.
Nnadozie, who was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament when the Super Falcons won their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco in July, also won the award in 2023 and 2024.
This time, the Brighton star beat Andile Dlamini of South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns as well as Khadija Er-Rmic of Morocco and AS FAR to the award.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s Hakimi and Chebbak claimed the biggest prizes, with the former clinching the Men’s Player of the Year and the latter earning the Women’s Player of the Year.
Paris Saint-Germain defender Hakimi, who played a key role in the French club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League title last summer, won the award ahead of Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen and Egypt and Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.
Apart from Nnadozie, the only other award won by a Nigerian player, coach or team was the Women’s National Team of the Year by the Super Falcons, who beat Ghana’s Black Queens and Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses.
Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Sanaa Mssoudy of Morocco and AS FAR were the other nominees for the Women’s Player of the Year.
Flamingos captain Shakirat Moshood was beaten to the Women’s Player of the Year by Doha El Madani of Morocco and AS FAR.
In other categories, Yassine Bounou of Morocco and Al Hilal won the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year prize, while Bubista was named Men’s Coach of the Year for leading Cape Verde to qualify for their first-ever World Cup.
