JUST IN: Unlike Nigeria, Ghana Slashes Passport Application Fee By 30% [SEE NEW PRICE]

The Ghanaian government has slashed its passport application fee by 30%, reducing its price from GHS 500 to GHS 350. The reduction takes effect on Thursday 13th November, 2025.

The new initiative also comes with a delivery period of under 15 days in addition to an E-tracking system and courier delivery.

Ghana’s newly reduced passport fee of GHS 350, equivalent to roughly ₦46,000, offers not only affordability but also improved efficiency through faster processing and courier delivery within 15 days. The policy reflects the government’s commitment to making essential services more accessible to its citizens.

By contrast, Nigeria’s most recent review in September set passport fees at ₦100,000 for a 5-year, 32-page booklet and ₦200,000 for a 10-year, 64-page passport for domestic applicants. For Nigerians in the diaspora, the charges remain at $150 and $230 respectively.

With Ghana’s monthly minimum wage of GHS 539.19 (based on a daily rate of GHS 19.97), citizens can obtain a passport using less than a month’s earnings. This affordability sharply contrasts with Nigeria, where the national minimum wage of ₦77,000 cannot cover even the cost of the lowest passport type.

The decision of the Ghanaian government to reduce Visa processing fees for its citizens further entrenches the difference in focus between the governments of both countries.
