ARCHIVES!!!: “Nigerians Dig Up APC’s Lai Mohammed Admitting” Boko Haram Targeting Christians For A Specific Reason” Amid Christian Genocide Allegation
Nigerians have dug up an old statement made by former Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in which he appeared to acknowledge that Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents were deliberately targeting Christians for genocide.
The clip, which resurfaced on X (formerly Twitter), has sparked renewed outrage following the United States’ recent designation of Nigeria over alleged religious persecution and killings of Christians.
Sharing the archived statement, an X user, Samuel Omo, wrote, “Thank God the Internet never forgives or forgets. This was Alhaji Lai Mohammed, former Minister of Information in an APC government, telling journalists in 2023 that Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents were targeting Christian villages and towns for genocide.”
Omo questioned why the same All Progressives Congress (APC) that once admitted to the killings now denies such realities, even as the U.S. has publicly raised concerns.
“So one then wonders why the same APC are denying what they once openly admitted — that the Americans are only now corroborating,” he added.
He also recalled that the current Nigerian president, then an opposition leader, had once led a campaign to Washington in 2014, accusing the previous government of ignoring the same atrocities now happening under his own administration.
“Why can’t we just understand that we are dealing with the rest of the world when we tell these lies?” Omo questioned.
The old remark by Lai Mohammed has reignited public debate over the Nigerian government’s handling of religiously motivated killings, with many citizens accusing the APC-led administration of inconsistency and double standards.
The controversy comes in the wake of Washington’s decision to re-designate Nigeria for “serious violations of religious freedom,” a move that has drawn mixed reactions from government officials and human rights observers alike.
