BREAKING: Despite Hat-Trick , Victor Osimhen Loses UEFA Player Of The Week Honour To Foden
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has missed the UEFA player of the week honour, despite being the only player to score a hattrick in the just-concluded game week.
Osimhen stole the headlines on Thursday, after he scored a hattrick for the Cimbom in their 3-0 thrashing of Ajax at the Johan Cruyff Arena on wednesday night.
He scored one with his head and converted twice from the penalty spot to seal the vital three points for his team.
His goals ensured that he broke multiple records for Galatasaray. He also ascended to the top of the goalscorers’ chart in the competition.
The Super Eagles striker was the only player to score a hattrick in the Champions League for the just-concluded game week
However, he didn’t clinch the player of the week honour. The Super Eagles star was nominated alongside Phil Foden (Manchester City), Carlos Forbs (Club Brugge), and Mikel Merino (Arsenal).
But surprisingly, Foden who scored 2 goals to seal his team win over Borussia Dortmund was named the Player of the
Week, as decided by votes from fans.
Osimhen finished second, Forbs third, while Merino ranked as the fourth.
This is the second gameweek in a row that Osimhen has been snubbed for a Champions League honour.
In the last game week, he scored a brace to power Galatasaray to a 3-1 win over Bodo Glimt, but he did not make the Team of the Week. Instead it was Gorka Guruzeta of Athletic Bilbao, who had a lower rating than him, that was selected.
