The Super Eagles of Nigeria will look to keep their 2026 World Cup dreams alive when they take on the Crocodiles of Lesotho on Friday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa.
With just two rounds of matches left in the African qualifiers, Eric Chelle’s men sit third in Group C with 11 points from eight games, three points behind joint leaders Benin Republic and South Africa.
The Genius Media Nigeria reports that Super Eagles’ hopes of qualification were revived after FIFA docked South Africa three points and three goals for fielding an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, in their clash against Lesotho in March.
The reverse fixture between both sides in November 2023 ended 1-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, leaving the Super Eagles under pressure to secure maximum points this time around.

Chelle has named a 23-man squad for the crucial qualifier, with two late changes. Right-back Zaidu Sanusi replaces Bright Osayi-Samuel, while forward Uche Christantus takes the place of Cyriel Dessers. Captain William Troost-Ekong leads the team alongside returning stars Semi Ajayi, Terem Moffi, Alhassan Yusuf, and Olakunle Olusegun.
Stanley Nwabali retains his spot as first-choice goalkeeper, supported by Amas Obasogie and Adebayo Adeleye. Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Alhassan Yusuf, and Alex Iwobi will control the midfield, while Victor Osimhen spearheads the attack with support from Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, and Moses Simon.
Lesotho are coming off a heavy 4-0 defeat to Benin and sit fifth in the group with nine points from eight matches. Leslie Notsi’s side have managed only two wins, with three draws and three losses.
On the other hand, the Super Eagles are unbeaten in their last three qualifiers and will need nothing less than a win to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
