Bayern Munich have officially pulled out of the race to sign Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, according to reports in Germany.

Vincent Kompany’s side had agreed to sign the Senegal international on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy for €65 million, however the transfer has now collapsed.

Jackson travelled to Munich to complete his move to Bayern on Saturday, but he was told to return to Chelsea just hours later after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury during the Blues’ 2-0 win over Fulham.

The 24-year-old initially refused to return to London, due to his desire to join Bayern, and his representatives were desperate to finalise an agreement for their client to complete his desired move to the reigning Bundesliga champions.

However, they were unable to agree a deal with Bayern or Chelsea and the deal is now off.

That is according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who posted on X: “Excl. Nicolas Jackson to FC Bayern – deal now 100% OFF.

“Decision made a few minutes ago. Bayern have officially pulled out. Jackson and Ali Barat will fly back to England.”

Chelsea are now not expected to sign a new striker to replace the injured Delap, with Jackson set to be reintegrated into the first-team in west London.

Enzo Maresca’s side had explored a move for Sporting CP striker Conrad Harder, while recalling Marc Guiu from his loan spell at Sunderland was also under consideration.

However, Jackson will simply return to Stamford Bridge and compete with Joao Pedro for a starting berth in Delap’s absence.

The Senegal star scored 13 goals in 37 games for Chelsea last season, and his contract at the club isn’t due to expire until 2033 after he signed a new long-term deal last year.
