Erbil SC have confirmed the signing of home-based Super Eagles captain Nduka Junior, on a three-year deal ahead of the 2025-26 season.

The Genius Media Nigeria reports that The Remo Stars captain, who plays as a central defender, led Nigeria to the 2024 African Nations Championship, where the team crashed out in the first round.

Nduka signed a three-year deal with the Iraqi club to bring an end to his five-year stint with Remo Stars.

He came through the club’s academy and was named the team’s captain in 2020, leading the Sky Blue Stars to the NPFL in 2021.

He played a key role in leading the club to their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League title last season.

Erbil SC confirmed his signing with a statement on their social media account on Wednesday.

The statement read: “The Emperor signed a 3-year contract with the Nigerian national team and the defence line ‘Nduka Junior’.

“The player of the Nigerian national team plays in the heart of defence.”

Nduka becomes the sixth Remo Stars player to leave the club this week following the departure of Kayode Bankole, Sikiru Alimi, Franck Mawuena, Fabian Nworie, and Seun Ogunribide.

Erbil SC are one of the most successful teams in Iraq, and the most successful from the Kurdish region, having won the league title 4 times.

In 2012, Erbil became the first Iraqi team to reach the final of the AFC Cup, a feat they repeated in 2014 AFC Cup but lost both times.

The club finished in the Iraqi Stars League with 50 points from 38 games, and they will be hoping to improve their form with the signing of Nduka Junior.
