Supporters of former President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday staged a protest in Abuja, demanding his return to active politics ahead of the 2027 general election.

The demonstrators, who marched through major streets of the capital, stormed the National Headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) was holding a meeting.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Goodluck, come back and save Nigeria,” the protesters chanted solidarity songs, urging Jonathan to throw his hat into the ring and challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election.

Many of the supporters argued that the former president remains a unifying figure capable of addressing Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges.   New Telegraph recalls that calls for Jonathan’s return have been gaining momentum in recent months, with some Nigerians insisting he has the experience and temperament to restore stability in the country.

Despite the growing pressure, Jonathan has not made any public statement on whether he intends to rejoin the presidential race.

For now, his silence continues to fuel speculation as both supporters and critics await clarity on his political future.
