Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has officially retired from professional football at the age of 36. He shared the news on his social media page, saying it was a difficult but important decision.

In his message, Ideye said he was thankful to God, his family, friends, fans, and teammates for their support throughout his career. He said football has been a big part of his life, but now it’s time to move on.

“This decision has been on my mind for a while. I’m grateful to God for the talent and strength to play football for many years. Thank you to my family, friends, fans, and teammates for always supporting me,” he wrote.

During his career, Ideye played for clubs in many countries. Some of the teams he played for include West Bromwich Albion in England, Olympiacos in Greece, Tianjin Teda in China, Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine, and Malaga in Spain. He was known for his strong playing style and goal-scoring skills.

For Nigeria, he played 28 matches and scored 6 goals. One of the best moments of his career was winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2013 with the Super Eagles.

Even though he is no longer playing, Ideye said he still loves football and may stay involved in the sport in the future, possibly by helping young players or working in coaching.

Fans and former teammates have praised him online, thanking him for his contributions to Nigerian football and wishing him well in the next stage of his life.
