FRESH: Microsoft Sack Over 300 Employees Globally
Global tech giant, Microsoft has laid off more than 300 employees worldwide in a new phase of workforce reductions.
Takeshi Numoto, the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), stated that the job cuts affected many departments of the company.
However, he did did not disclose which specific teams were affected.
Numoto mentioned that the layoffs are parts of a ‘recalibration’ process aimed at aligning with evolving business goals and the rapidly changing tech industry.
He said, “We continue to implement organisational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace.”
These new layoffs follow a separate round just last month, when the company sacked about 6,000 employees.
At that time, Microsoft clarified the decision wasn’t based on employee performance but was meant to streamline management layers.
The latest job reductions also come shortly after Microsoft officially shut down ‘Skype,’ its long-standing video and messaging service that had operated for more than 20 years.
The company had earlier announced plans to lay off 10,000 workers roughly 5% of its global staff in the year 2023, citing broader economic pressures and shifting customer needs.
