BREAKING: Nigerian Female Basketball Team D’Tigress Beat Australia To Claim First Olympics Win In 20 Years – #Paris2024—D Tigress, Nigeria’s National Female Basketball Team on Monday, 29 July, 2024 at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics recorded its first victory in the women’s basketball event as they defeated Australia 75-62 at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium.
It was the Tigress’ first win in Olympics in 20 years and their second victory overall in the Olympics.
The victory over Australia underlined the determination of the Tigress to do well in the competition. Australia are ranked third in the FIBA ranking while Nigeria are ranked.
The Rena Wakama tutored side have registered just a win at the Olympics despite qualifying twice before.
In Athens 2004, they defeated South Korea in an inconsequential classification game after crashing out.
They had lost all five games and conceded over 400 points in their previous group matches. The team ended up finishing 11th out of 12 teams in the competition
At the Tokyo Olympics, they were defeated 87-62 by France in their first game and lost 81-72 to the US in their second game before a 102-83 loss to Japan in the last fixture.
