The leader of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, has allegedly ordered the execution of hundreds of his followers for being disloyal to the group.

The Islamic State chief demanded that even some leading figures in Iraq and Syria be murdered, Iraqi intelligence reports are said to claim, reports Daily Mail.

The extremist group has lost about 90 per cent of the territory it controlled in 2014 when al-Baghdadi declared himself head of its Caliphate.

He has now ‘issued an order to kill 320 of his followers’ for their ‘betrayal’ of ISIS and their ‘recklessness’ which ‘inflicted heavy losses on the group in both Iraq and Syria’, Iraqi News report intelligence sources as saying.

High-profile commanders said to be on the hit list include Abu al-Baraa al-Ansari, Sief al-Din al-Iraqi, Abu Otham al-Tal Afari, Abu Iman al-Mowahed and Marawan Hadid al-Suri.
