Create More Of Educating Music, Female Saxophonist Advises Artistes—–Create More Of Educating Music, Female Saxophonist Advises Artistes—-Nigerian female saxophonist, Omotola Ekerin, popularly known as “Omotola Sax”, has advised musicians to focus more on production of songs with good lyrical and educating content.
Ekerin, a 34-year-old mother, gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos.
She said that music should be used as a means of educating the populace as well as correcting certain moral values in the sociey.
“These days, I don’t really understand what musicians are really turning music to. In the past, music was a means of education and a tool to improve our moral values in the community.
“Nigerian musicians should be committed to producing more of educating music,” she said.
Ekerin said that she was attracted to saxophone due to its uniqueness as she developed love for the sound that comes out of it.
She said music generally had been able to help her enjoy better mood over the years even as she faced some difficult moments in life.
Ekerin attested to the fact that her kind of music, which is gospel, had lifted and healed lots of people from different forms of predicament.
“So far, so good, my music has brought about healing to a lot of people because when people listen to some of the testimonies from some other people, it is so inspiring to a lot of them, most especially people in the church,” she said.
The saxophonist said her role models were Mike Aremu, Kunle Ajayi and Nathaniel Bassey, as she looked forward to collaborating with them soon.
She noted that her goal was to reach out to unsaved souls and be a source of joy to others through her music.
She said that through her annual musical concert, “Alabaster”, her vision would be actualised.
According to her, this year’s edition of the concert will hold on Aug.9.
“I have two videos currently and planing to shoot more, we have “Dasanki” and “Emimimo wa yanju oro yi”. I am planing to release them soon.
“My advice to the up-and-coming musicians is that they should be focused and take things slow and steady as success takes gradual process,” she said
