How Nigerian Lady, Esther Agbaje Secured A Place In The U.S. State Assembly – #ElectionDay2020—The daughter of Nigerian immigrants, Rev John and Bunmi, Ms. Esther Agbaje has been elected into the Minnesota House of Representatives in Tuesday’s U.S. general elections.
35-years-old Ms. Agbaje holds various degrees in Law, Political science and Public Administration. Currentl, she works as an Attorney in Minneapolis with a focus on general civil litigation and medical malpractice.
She will be representing District 59B in the 134-member House on the platform of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), an affiliate of the U.S. Democratic Party after polling 74.7% of the total ballots cast.
She defeated her closest rival, Alan Shilepsky of the Republican Party who secured 17.7% of the total votes. Her priorities as a lawmaker includes affordable housing, environmental justice, police reform, public safety, and racial equality
In the Unites States, elections to the lower chamber of the state legislature hold every two years, and there are no term limits for the lawmakers.
