BREAKING: Mohammad Mokhber Identified As Possible Successor After Khamenei’s Death In US-Israel Strike
Iran is set to fill the vacuum left by the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike.
According to The Guardian UK, a temporary leadership arrangement has been outlined to guide the country during the transition. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, and another senior legal official are expected to oversee state affairs in the interim period.
At the same time, Iranian state television has identified Mohammad Mokhber as the man chosen to succeed Khamenei. Mokhber, a long-time aide and adviser to the late leader, previously served as acting president after the sudden death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in 2024. He also held the position of First Vice President between 2021 and 2024.
The Genius Media Nigeria reports that Mokhber aged 71, has a background in business and engineering. For 14 years from 2007, he led the Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order, a powerful state-controlled conglomerate created after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The organisation manages assets taken over after the fall of the Pahlavi dynasty and operates across key sectors such as oil, telecommunications, finance and healthcare. The United States sanctioned Mokhber and the organisation in 2019.
Reports indicated that Khamenei had drawn up a line of succession during last year’s brief war with Israel. He was said to have named possible replacements and arranged multiple levels of leadership to ensure continuity in case of an attack targeting top political and military officials.
