Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered bizarre attempts by drug traffickers to smuggle cocaine and opioids through the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport and the Seme land border.

The agency said suspects resorted to concealing illicit substances in their stomachs and even disguising drugs in a fake pregnancy bump in desperate bids to beat security checks.

A 35-year-old Kano-based businesswoman, Rabi Muhammad, was intercepted at the departure tarmac of the Seme Border on Monday, February 16, 2026, while attempting to cross into Cotonou, Benin Republic.

According to the agency, officers noticed her protruding tummy and subjected her to a full body search, which exposed what officials described as an “absurd concealment method.”

Her pregnancy was fake.

Ivorian Excretes 82 Cocaine Wraps In Kano

On the same day, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, NDLEA officers intercepted a 41-year-old Ivorian, Michael Gohouri, also known as Anunwa Onyinye Michael, during outward clearance of passengers on an Ethiopian Airlines flight ET940 bound for Milan via Addis Ababa.

A body scan confirmed ingestion of illicit substances, after which he was placed under observation. He subsequently excreted 82 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.49 kilograms.

Investigations revealed that Gohouri arrived in Lagos from Milan on January 17, 2026, and spent three weeks shuttling between Lagos and Enugu before travelling to Kano. He reportedly ingested the cocaine consignment in his hotel room and was promised €5,000 upon successful delivery in Milan.

The suspect, who resides at Rue Duce Avenue 13, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, claimed his father is Ivorian while his mother hails from Anunwa compound, Urunnebo village, Ukwan in Enugu State.

He further disclosed that he applied for asylum in Italy in 2013 and obtained a resident permit valid until May 25, 2026. He also possesses a Nigerian National Identification Number bearing the name Anunwa Onyinye Michael.

Lekki Real Estate CEO Arrested With 89.2kg Cannabis

In a related development, the NDLEA announced the arrest of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Trans Fortress Global Resources, Mr. Kolapo Oladapo Raji.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, February 22, 2026, by the Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, Raji had been on the agency’s watchlist since 2025 following credible intelligence.

The 57-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at his Safe Court Apartment residence in Ikate, Lekki, Lagos, shortly after returning from the United Kingdom.

A search of his residence led to the recovery of four large bags containing parcels of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing 89.20 kilograms. A 2024 Toyota Hilux was also recovered at the point of arrest.

In his statement, Raji reportedly admitted that he ventured into drug trafficking after financing consignments for an overseas associate.

He said the “hundreds of millions of naira” he received as profit encouraged him to establish his own distribution network.

In separate operations in Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested Ugwuja Kingsley with 56 kilograms of skunk at Agbara on February 19, while Ekwe Arinze was apprehended with 76 kilograms of the same substance at a motor park in Oshodi on February 17.

At the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, Rivers State, NDLEA officers, in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies, discovered 170,900 bottles of codeine-based syrup in a container during a joint examination.

In Bauchi State, operatives arrested a 48-year-old suspect, Yahaya Adamu Gimba, at Azare town in Katagun Local Government Area on Tuesday, February 17, with 936 kilograms of skunk.

In a related development, an additional 85.8 kilograms of the substance was recovered from Yahaya Adamu Gimba and three other suspects, Nasiru Suleman, 36; Abdul Umar, 25; and Musa Suleman, 21, also in Azare.

In Delta State, 37 kilograms of skunk were seized from a 34-year-old suspect, Mgbeme Ejeoma, at Club Street, Ekeredjebor, Ughelli, on February 17.

On the same day in neighbouring Edo State, NDLEA officers raided Etiosa camp in Owan West Local Government Area, where they destroyed 1,266.8475 kilograms of skunk cultivated across three farms.

The agency also recovered 23 kilograms of processed cannabis and arrested two suspects, including a 68-year-old grandmother, Evelyn Ogenewu, and a 43-year-old man, Friday Iruoje.

Beyond enforcement, the agency said its Commands and formations sustained their War Against Drug Abuse campaign through sensitisation programmes in schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities.

Recent WADA lectures were delivered to students and staff of Muslim Community High School, Ayetoro-Oke in Kajola LGA, Oyo State; Government Girls Secondary School, Gadaka, Yobe State; Owerri City Secondary School, Imo State; Government Day Secondary School, Tongo, Gombe State; St. Catherine’s College, Igoli, Ogoja, Cross River State; Government Senior Girls Secondary School, Kofar Kudu, Kano State; and Model Government College, Ikorodu, Lagos State, among others.

Marwa Commends Officers

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers and men of the agency’s MAKIA, Seme, Lagos, Edo, Bauchi, Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Ondo, Delta and Kogi Commands for the arrests and seizures.

Marwa praised what he described as their “balanced approach” to drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts, noting that their operational successes across the country were well appreciated.

He reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to sustain the momentum in dismantling drug networks while strengthening preventive education under the WADA initiative.
